Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the world of football today:

🏈 The List Goes On
🥹 Wholesome Wednesday
🚀 ...and much more!

Let's get into it.

👑 Main Character

Matt Ryan. Colt McCoy. Nick Foles. Jacoby Brissett. Colin Kaepernick. Cam Newton. Time Tebow. Joe Flacco. Tom Brady. Carson Wentz.

What do all of these quarterbacks have in common? No, it isn’t that they all have Super Bowl experience. No, it isn’t a list of QBs the Patriots have beaten. This is a list of potential suitors to become the next “backup quarterback” for the New York Jets.

With Aaron Rodgers torn Achilles officially confirmed, much to the dismay of Jets fans, it’s time for the team to search for another quarterback to come in and help this Super Bowl caliber roster make their way to New Orleans come February 11, 2024. Despite head coach Robert Saleh definitively stating that “Zach Wilson is the guy going forward”, the Jets are going to need options at the quarterback position based on the simple fact that they needed them just one season ago.

There are a lot of fun names to talk about as potential replacements for Zach Wilson, so here are the three tiers (I know it’s not Tiersday but bear with us here) of QBs the Jets are likely looking at.

No Way It Will Ever Happen But Wow That Would Be Amazing

  • Collin Kaepernick

  • Tom Brady

  • Tim Tebow

If the script writers over at the NFL wanted to drive up viewership even higher than it’s already been, than look no further than these three QBs.

Collin Kaepernick is the only one on the list who has shown a shred of interest in returning to the league, but the likelihood of any of these guys appearing in a Jets uniform are near 0%. Heck, Brady was just celebrated in New England this past Sunday for his official ‘thanks for everything’ ceremony.

If any of these quarterbacks take the field at MetLife in 2023, I will delete every edition of Snagged Sports, but just thinking about the storylines these three would make was too much to not at least write about.

Unlikely But Not Out Of The Realm Of Possibility

  • Joe Flacco

  • Matt Ryan

  • Cam Newton

These three quarterbacks have the rare trait that the Jets would love to have in any of the guys they bring in: Super Bowl experience.

Even though both Ryan and Newton lost in devastating fashion, having players that have been to the Big Game before would be nice for a team that is so young and so not used to winning.

The knock on each of these quarterbacks? Age.

Even though Joe Flacco played for the Jets last season, the collective age of these three combined is more than the yards on a football field. A.k.a not ideal.

The Most Sensible Options

  • Nick Foles

  • Jacoby Brissett

  • Colt McCoy

  • Carson Wentz

The argument for each of these potential “backups” for the Jets are as good as the next. Nick Foles makes the most sense despite his lack of success in Indy. He has a Super Bowl ring, and not only the ring, but the Super Bowl MVP trophy to go along with it. He is the guy that an entire, very hostile, city believed in and rallied around, and that’s what you want in a New York Jets QB.

Jacoby Brissett is one of those game managers everyone talks about, but has no real track record of winning consistently. Colt McCoy would be the best real backup option, but if he needed to go in for more than a couple of games, that would be bad news. And lastly, Carson Wentz is just Carson Wentz. No further explanation is needed.

It’s going to be an interesting couple of days to see who the team with such high aspirations brings in. If it is indeed Nick Foles, each of you have to refer at least three people to Snagged Sports. We’ll hold you to it.

🗞️ In Other News…

Tarik Cohen, who hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2020 season, is making his return to the NFL. The former Pro Bowl running back will be joining the Carolina Panthers practice squad. Imagine tearing your ACL, MCL, fracturing your tibial plateau (ouch?) and still defying the odds and making a comeback to play football at a professional level.

Hats off to Cohen. Here’s to hoping we get an amazing moment out of him this season that involves him scoring a touchdown and the crowd going wild.

🥹 Wholesome Wednesday

Not only has Deion Sanders shot up the ranks as potentially one of the best college coaches in the country, his speeches have reached ‘appointment television’ status.

Hearing Coach Prime talk about his team as a family in a way that most coaches try to communicate but fail has to be part of the reason why this team has seen so much success in just a short amount of time.

Wednesday’s Picks

🏈 NFL: Bills -9 vs. Raiders

I want to start by thanking Josh Allen for playing one of the worst games he’s ever played because it won me my fantasy matchup. I know he played bad, but come on now.

The Bills are coming off of this embarrassing loss to the Jets on Monday night, and now, to make up for it, they get the Raiders at home. This happened last year with the Niners losing in Week 1, and then what did they do? They won by 30 next week. Yes, the Raiders just beat a Broncos team with a new coach, but this number is just too low. Should be at least 10.5.

🏈 CFB: Memphis -14.5 vs. Navy

This is partially a pick in spite of Navy because of their horrible performance against Notre Dame in Week 0. However, Memphis has been good at beating up on bad teams, and I think it will continue here. Navy was only able to put up 24 points against Wagner; I don’t see them putting up many points here. Take the Tigers at home and call it a day.

🎒CFB season record: 5-5-0

⭐️ NFL season record: 6-1-0
