🚀 ...and much more!

Let's get into it.

👑 TNF Preview

In the first Amazon TNF game of the season, two of last year’s NFC playoff teams will square off against each other in Week 2 for the second year in a row.

In their last contest, the Eagles put the hurt on Skol Nation. After jumping out to a big 24-7 lead at halftime, the score read the same when the clock struck all zeroes. It was a forgettable game to say the least, but it was one of just four losses for the Vikings one season ago.

This year has a chance to be a whole lot better of a game. Did you see the scowl Justin Jefferson had on his face after losing the season opener against Tampa? He and the Vikings team need to get on the winning side of things fast if they want to compete with a suddenly competitive division, and based on that attitude, I’m thinking things might look different this time ‘round.

Eagles

Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ offense appeared mild at best in their win last week against the Patriots. Yes, it was raining a whole heck of a lot, but regardless, Hurts delivered a Year 1 type performance after racking up just 170 passing yards, 37 rushing yards, and just the one passing touchdown.

None of Philly’s running backs showed any kind of spark, and outside of the star studded wideout duo in AJ Brown and Devonta Smith, the Eagles’ receiving core put up 42 yards on four receptions.

All that to say, the Eagles defense is one that teams need to be afraid of, again. Although they will be a little banged up heading into the matchup, rookie Jalen Carter impressed with a sack in his debut. Big Play Darius Slay returned an INT for six and is still one of the team’s leaders going forward.

Vikings

Even though it’s only Week 2, this game is a ‘get right game’ for Minnesota after an abysmal performance against Tampa in the opener.

Kirk Cousins regressed back to his old, average, self after turning the ball over three times. He showed flashes of last year’s poise - after all, JJettas had 150 yards receiving, but most quarterbacks who attempt 44 passes can start to rack up numbies after a while.

There was no run game to be seen out of Dalvin Cook’s successor, Alexander Mattison. Just 34 yards on 11 carries is not going to be enough to help the offense diversify the offense which it badly needs, and going against a better front 7 than last week is not a good sign.

The defense actually played a stellar game compared to last season’s squad. Albeit against Baker Mayfield, the defense only let up 20 points, held the rushing attack under 75 yards and didn’t allow any single receiver over 70 yards. Danielle Hunter looked like his old self, in a good way, after accumulating two TFLs, but in a unit with no certified star, they will need to come up with answers to stop this all-around offensive Eagles attack.

Prediction

If we’re being honest here, the Vikings were a lucky lucky team last season. They went 11-0 in one score games, and this year, they are already 0-1 in the same such games. The Eagles, despite the lackluster 2023 debut, has the making of a team poised for another Super Bowl run. As long as Jalen Hurts can return to half the guy he was last year, the Eagles will be okay.

In the end, the Eagles will take a hold of this game away from the jump, much like they did almost exactly one year ago. Let’s just hope that Jefferson doesn’t put a pouty face on this time ‘round.

🗞️ In Other News…

Oh, the irony.

The Pac-12, in their last year of (likely) existence, is having a season unlike they have ever seen. The conference after Week 1 was undefeated, and through Week 2 of the college football season, the Pac-12 has eight of their teams ranked in the Top 25. As of now, the conference is 21-4, and with USC and Colorado making lots of noise, it’s a big ‘what if’ on if the Pac-12’s contract would have lasted just a bit longer.

Did we really expect anything else from the abomination that is OJ Simpson? First of all, there’s no reason this man should appear on any sports media outlets. None at all. Second, this sound byte you should click on is one of the worst of the year. Bar none. Get this man off the screen for the rest of the season.

Thursday’s Picks

🏈 NFL: Vikings + 7 @ Eagles & Over 49 total points

This is one of those, close your eyes, take the number, and trust, bets.

The Eagles are without a few defensive starters including Nakobe Dean, James Bradberry, Reed Blankenship, and Fletcher Cox, who is currently listed as questionable. Both of these teams were not their best last week. Minnesota especially, turning the ball over three times. Although they didn't exactly play against the Greatest Show on Turf, their defense did hold the Buccaneers to only 20 points. Plus, Kirk Cousins is 5-2 ATS in his 7 primetime games over the last 3 years.

The Eagles will prove to be a more difficult test, but, I like the Vikings far too much here, and it scares me. Last week was not how the NFL normally goes. We are back to trusting ugly underdogs to cover.
