Welcome back to another edition of Snagged Sports, where we ✨snag✨ all of the best stories in sports and serve them up on a screen near you. In today's edition, a recap of some of the thrilling Sweet 16 matchups, no one is allowed to talk to Lamar's "agent", and a certain soon-to-be-pro had a day. Let's get into it.

Main Character: Sweet 16, Day 1

Sure, the Round of 64 provides non-top action, but nothing beats the quality of play and the late game intensity quite like the Sweet 16. It was an action packed night, and with championship hopes on the minds of all 16 remaining teams, 4 of them have made that dream live on just a little bit longer.

A Star is Born

Kansas State and Michigan State played in an all-time classic to kick off the action last night and boy was this a game to remember.

The star of the show was no doubt 5'8 guard Markquis Nowell's who dropped 20 points and an NCAA Tournament record 19 assists, including this nasty lob to help secure a victory for the Wildcats during OT.

7 seed Michigan State held their own as they had 5 double digit scorers, but it wasn't enough as they allowed 98 points on 55% shooting from the field. This might not be the Cinderella story we were expecting, but with the story Nowell has, and with the Wildcats picked to finish last in the Big 12 during preseason, they have their own version of an underdog run despite the 3 seed label.

Easy Dubs

After the Razorbacks took down 1 seed Kansas in the Round of 32, many fans expected this game to be one of the best Sweet 16 matchups of the tournament. Turns out, for UConn fans, this is probably true.

The Huskies controlled the game from the very start, and never let go of their lead throughout the entire game. Center, Adama Sonogo, and guard, Jordan Hawkins, are the duo of the tournament so far, and they showed it against Arkansas. They combined for 42 of UConn's 88 points, but it was their physicality on the boards and confidence in their shot selection that ultimately did Arkansas in.

This team looks like a team that can win it all as they have yet to show any real weakness throughout the tournament thus far. For Mr. Cover's sake, (he has a future on UConn) we should all be rooting for the Huskies from here on out.

Zags Thriller

UCLA and Gonzaga have a way of producing some of the best tournament games (see 2021 Final Four), and last night was no different.

It truly was a game of runs as each team held significant leads throughout the game, but each time a big lead was gained, the defense locked down and the other weaseled their way back in. Mr. Mustache a.k.a. Drew Timme lead the night in scoring with 36 points and 13 rebounds, and had arguably his best performance in a NCAA Tournament game in his longer-than-usual college career.

No moment was bigger though than Julian Strawther's deep three to give the Bulldogs a 3 point lead with 7 seconds left in the game.

UCLA got a semi-good look at a shot at the buzzer, but it was no good, and Gonzaga is moving on to the Elite Eight for the third time in five years.

You May Not Have Seen THIS 👀

The Lamar Jackson saga continues. There has been a lot of speculation around what compensation Jackson is seeking, but I don't think anyone had 'fake agent negotiations' on their Lamar Jackson free agency bingo card.

The NFL sent out a memo yesterday prohibiting teams speaking to Lamar's "agent", Ken Francis, who is solely a business partner, not an agent. Agents not certified by the NFLPA are not allowed to enter into contract negotiations with a team, and it is rumored that Francis has been attempting to persuade team personnel into doing just that.

If you're wondering how Lamar feels about all of this, he isn't holding anything back:

One day we will see number 8 sign with a team, but for now, we will have to continue to watch one of the most bizarre free agencies by an MVP quarterback we might have ever seen.

🤍 Not So Wholesome Content 🤍

Friday’s on ESPN were famous for their Not Top 10's of the week, so at Snagged Sports, we decided to take that as inspiration. Not that we’re remotely at ESPN's level, but today, we will be highlighting one of the least wholesome stories of the week.

That brings us to the WNIT. After Bowling Green advanced to the Elite Eight, teams were shaking hands when, all of a sudden, a punch was thrown from Memphis player, Elissa Brett.

What happened to sportsmanship? Losing hurts, but we don't have to hurt other people Elissa! Be better Memphis.

March Madness Futures Still Alive

✅ UConn +2500

✅ Texas +2800

❌ St. Mary's +3300

✅ Houston +600

Not too shabby! Of course, Texas and Houston still have to play tonight, but with one of his four teams securely in the Elite Eight, I'm sure Mr. Covers is feeling pretty good.

The Rest of the Week

A note from Mr. Editor:

Mr. Covers will not be providing any picks the rest of this week as he takes a much needed break from the betting game. Don't worry, he will return soon, and hopefully, with nothing but winners.

🐣 Tweet of the Day 🐣

Alabama had their pro day yesterday down in Tuscaloosa, and potential number 1 overall pick Bryce Young showed his stuff, even doing the infamous 'Zach Wilson' through to cap things off.
