While we await the result of this year’s NBA Champion, other teams are already gearing up for next season’s push, and it usually starts with the head coach. Nick Nurse already accepted a new deal with the 76ers after being fired by the Raptors just four years after bringing them a championship. It’s a cold, cold world in the NBA.

But today’s focus is the newest head coach of the Detroit Pistons, Monty Williams. Williams led the Phoenix Suns to the second round of the NBA Playoffs, but fell to the eventual Western Conference representative, Denver Nuggies. He showed some skill during his time with the Suns, but his newest contract is putting him in the history books.

His new contract his worth six years, $72 million dollars, with incentives and other team options that could hoist that number up to 100+ M’s.

Detroit thinks they have found their coach of the future, and with a young core starting with Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey and the soon-to-be No. 5 overall pick, Monty is getting the reigns to a potentially budding franchise. As they say, more money, more problems, but I’m sure that won’t be the case with the historically successful Pistons, right?

It’s officially the end of an era in the sports media world. Longtime Undisputed co-host Shannon Sharpe is calling it quits after deciding to end his partnership with the program and co-host Skip Bayless. The departure could happen as soon as the end of the NBA Playoffs.

Hopefully, this isn’t the end of seeing them on TV, because at their peak, it’s some must-see debate television. Jury is still out on whether we think Sharpe or Bayless is more valuable to the program. I guess that’s tbd.

About last night...

I keep finding myself going around .500 every night. I am not necessarily complaining, but it can be frustrating going perfectly even so often. Again, not complaining, but I have put more money on the teams that have lost so going perfectly even doesn’t always equate to even money.

🏀 NBA: Heat 1Q +3.5

The ole rest vs. rust debate is alive and well. The Heat came out buzzing in all but 2 games against the Celtics. I like the Heat to stay in a groove for at least the first quarter.

⚾️ MLB: D-Backs ML -172 vs. Rockies

I might have said at the beginning of the season that the Diamondbacks were not going to be good, yet here they are only a game out of the Dodgers for first place in the division. They have won each of the last 3 against the Rockies and 5 out of 6 this year against them. Arizona is 18-12 at home and Colorado is 9-19 on the road. It’s not just me telling you to pick this, the numbers are screaming at you as well.

🏀 NBA: Heat vs. Nuggets 1H U 112.5

Apparently, playoff first half unders have been an ATM over the last 2 seasons going 61% during that span, and 55% just this year. It’s not gambling if you know you’re going to win!
