Tatum, Dame, and Mac McClung Shine

Lebron and Giannis might have been the team captains, but Jayson Tatum was the true star during the All-Star Game dropping a historic 55 points to take home the MVP of the night. If it's any indication of the future, the Celtics should be on everyone's championship radar.

The reaction by Giannis was all of us on Saturday when 76ers guard Mac McClung decided to turn into prime Vince Carter during this weekend's slam dunk competition. Some are questioning the legitimacy of the title since McClung was signed to a 10-day contract just before the break, but nonetheless, most are saying he had some of the best dunks since 2016 - including this perfect 50 that won it for him.

Damian Lillard got hot from 3 as he bested Pacers' duo Buddy Hield and Tyrese Haliburton in the final round of the Starry Three-Point contest to take home some hardware of his own from the weekend. Our pick in Kevin Huerter clearly did not pan out, but you can't get them all right.

XFL's Successful Start

The XFL got off to a good start this weekend as each team debuted new rosters touted with talent. With so much action to cover, here are a few of the main storylines from a, by all accounts, successful launch to the season:

@XFLSeaDragons

  • Josh Gordon hauls in an opening day touchdown from an incredible shovel pass by QB Ben Dinucci which garnered comparisons to Patrick Mahomes.

  • San Antonio Brahmas win after being down 15-2 with 1:30 left in the game thanks to a 3-point conversion.

  • The XFL banned the 'beer snake' from DC Defenders games, and to retaliate, the fans threw lemons onto the field, disrupting play of the game.

Hopefully, the XFL is here to stay. It provides a good buffer into NFL season and hey, who doesn't love a little bit of extra football?

Rahm Moves to No. 1

Golf.com

Jon Rahm outlasted the field in one of the PGA's toughest tournaments of the season. The history-filled Riviera Country Club delivered some awesome moments from the final rounds of the weekend, but it was this shot on Saturday at the 17th hole that helped him lock up a win.

It was a milestone win for Rahm as well as it was his 10th win on the PGA Tour, joining an elite group of golfers. Oh and not to mention, Rahm will take home a cool $3.7 million for his efforts. It pays to win tournaments nowadays.

I know next to nothing about Nascar, and I won't pretend to, but this is the best story to come out of the sport since...well I don't know, I don't follow NASCAR.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Stenhouse and his crew came out on top in the Daytona 500 for the first time in 199 races. One hundred ninety-nine. And, in an even more incredible addition to the story, he won in double overtime (I had no idea overtime existed in racing) barely edging out Joey Logano.

What a relief it must be to finally get a win, and in the most historic race of them all. Ricky Stenhouse Jr., you have made a fan out of us all.

Max Homa gave it his all in his hometown tournament this weekend, but came up 2 strokes shy of a victory. In an emotional interview, Homa expressed just how much this one meant to him and vowed to be back next year, gunning for the trophy.

💰 The Cover Corner 💰

About this weekend: I don’t want to hear a single thing about these picks. This is not my fault, it's Adam Silver's for putting together zero things to bet on, which forced my hand into taking things I didn't love. Again, not my fault, take it up with the NBA's Commish.

In other news, Sienna is officially dead to me. I’m going to place a mental bet on them to not cover their next game thinking the one time I fade then they will win, but never a real one again. They are in my head (literally), and on my official do not bet list.

The Stars are allergic to finishing and/or winning a hockey game in overtime. I love them, but my goodness, it's looking like they are on the way to breaking my heart come playoff time.

🏒 NHL:  Ottawa Senators vs. Boston Bruins U 6.5

The best goaltender in the league and one of the best defenses at home is a recipe for an under. I’m very surprised at how this line has not gone from 6.5 to 6. Ottawa is as average as average gets. The Bruins are the best team in the league and will do their thing. Boston will win this with ease and keep Ottawa to a low shot percentage. Book it.

🏀 CBB: Minnesota vs. Illinois U 135.5

Two unders on the same night? To quote the Minister of Magic in The Deathly Hallows Part 1, “these are dark times, there’s no denying that.” Now, I don’t want to do this, but I have to - Adam Silver is to blame for this (see 'about this weekend'). Two solid defenses will be going at it in a Big 10 conference game, and both teams are combined 31-18 when it comes to the under. Don’t overthink it and follow me on this pick.

As per usual, do what you must with this valuable information.

🐣 Tweet of the Weekend 🐣

@Commanders

Coming fresh off of a Super Bowl win, former Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy decided to take on a fresh challenge and head east to become the Washington Commander's new OC. Bienemy has established himself as one of the best OC's in the league, but without Andy Reid at his side, he'll truly prove whether he's the winner he's always been.

In what is a lateral move, many are questioning why he would leave the dynasty forming Chiefs to take a bottom tier franchise at the moment. My take: he needs to get out from Reid's shadow in order to prove he has what it takes to be a head coach in the NFL. Only time will tell if he will deliver.

🤑 Money Money Money Monday 🤑

There are no guarantees in life, but this bettor hit a bet that was so guaranteed, he netted $0. No, really, take a look:

On the other hand, this bettor was about to cash an insane 12 leg parlay, and it all came down to a Yale ML at -10000 odds. Surely he won! He won, right... He won...right?! Wrong

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but that one has to hurt. Betting is a cruel game, and for these two, there truly are no guarantees.

Quick Hits 🥊

  • DK Metcalf released a controversial video showing him make an insane catch, but was it real?

  • XFL introduced a new kickoff method sending fans to debate the pros and cons.

  • The Big 12 is on pace of making 'seeding history' with six potential top four seeds.

  • Jokic drafts himself to Team Lebron before the All Star Game.

  • Michigan St and Michigan join together in emotional tribute after the tragedy in East Lansing.
