Silent Game

+ a real-life magician and a preview for the Philly fans

Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the world of football today:

🏈 Holding Out

🪄 Absolute Magic

🚀 ...and much more! Let's get into it.

👑 Main Character

There’s always a couple of big name players that cause a ruckus around training camp time over contract disputes, and this preseason is no different. While the running backs have had their fair share of issues over the past month, it’s a pair of the league’s best defensive lineman that are holding out to get what they rightfully deserve.

Nick Bosa

The No. 4 player on the NFL’s Top 100 is holding out of camp right now seeking to make HOF’er money. The reigning DPOY wants a deal on par with what the Rams’ Aaron Donald is making: 3-years, $95 million.

Bosa is undeniably the heartbeat of the defense (some would argue Fred Warner but they would be wrong) and is a necessity on the field if the 49ers want to set a winning tone right from the jump of the 2023 NFL season. It’s not out of the question that he could sit out into the start of the season should an agreement not be reached, and that is the last thing that you want from not only a top player on the team, but in the entire league.

Chris Jones

Not far behind the DPOY in the NFL’s Top 100 at No. 10 sits defensive tackle Chris Jones. The two-time Super Bowl champ wants to be paid top dollar for his services, and with the production he’s had as of late, it’s not hard to see why.

Jones, like Bosa, wants to be among the highest paid defensive lineman in the league, which if you ask us, is pretty reasonable. Keeping a core of happy players following a Super Bowl should not be hard to do, but if Jones isn’t offered a new contract soon, he too could miss some action at the start of this season.

🗞️ In Other News…

This guy Oz the Mentalist is on another level.

Last night’s ‘Hard Knocks’ featured Oz, essentially a wizard, as he performed magic tricks on both Aaron Rodgers and Mecole Hardman. Think of him like a less gross and less creepy version of David Blaine. No matter how many times you watch this, you will still be amazed.

💰 Mr. Covers Corner

Mr. Covers has you covered when it comes to the college football landscape. Today, he’ll be breaking down the second, some would argue the most, competitive conference in all of college football: the Big 10.

The Big Ten is pretty much a two-horse race between Michigan and Ohio State. What’s new?

Ohio State’s success will be largely determined by who they go with at QB. It seems like it will be Kyle McCord, which I believe to be the better option due to his history of being Marvin Harrison Jr's high school quarterback. As a whole, this is a very good Ohio State team, but they will need a few things to fall their way down the stretch.

Michigan reloaded again this year, mainly by returning many key players including both star running backs in Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. The only place of question for the Wolverines is in the defensive line. Losing their top two pass rushers from last year (as well as the year before) may take a couple of games to get their transfers and newcomers up to speed. However, this is a very similar team to last year, and if they can run the ball the way they did last year, they should be able to capture the Big Ten once again.

Penn State should have yet another 10-2 season with their only 2 losses coming to Michigan and Ohio State. There is just too big of a gap between Penn State and the two top dogs, but they do have the better side of Home and Away with those two matchups (vs. Michigan, @ OSU). From there, there aren't a whole lot of noteworthy teams in the conference. Nebraska and Wisconsin will be interesting to watch with Matt Rhule and Luke Fickle starting their first year at their respective schools. Sickos and perverts like me will continue to bet Iowa unders.

Overall, I like Michigan to win the conference at +180, Michigan to make the CFP at +125, and Ohio State to win the CFP at +700.

👀 Team Preview

Welcome to Snagged Sports’ NFL team previews! Each day leading up to the NFL regular season, we’ll cover one (maybe two) teams to get you all caught up.

Next on the list: the Philadelphia Eagles

  • Last year’s record: 14-3

  • Result: Lost in Super Bowl

Very similarly to the Cowboys yesterday, the Eagles are easily among the top teams in the NFC and will have a strong chance of heading back to the Super Bowl.

Unlike Dallas, there has been quite a bit of shuffling around in many positions of importance for this team. The running back room saw a complete overhaul with the team letting go of Miles Sanders and bringing in D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny to add even more depth at the position. The strength of the offense, the wide receivers and o-line, remain largely the same with center Jason Kelce deciding to run it back for another year and star duo A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith coming off a season where they combined for 2,700 yards of offense.

The defense will start the season looking pretty different than last years. The Eagles brought in linebacker help in the form of Myles Jack to bring in a veteran presence to help out young guys like Nakobe Dean and rookie Nolan Smith. Terrell Edmunds comes in to replace CJ Gardner-Johnson’s role from last season and James Bradberry is slotting in at corner alongside Big Play Darius Slay. All that to say, while the defense looks different, they will still be among the league’s best.

For this team to have any issues making the playoffs would be the surprise of the NFL this season. They are a certified top-3 team in the NFC and among the favorites to raise the Lombardi Trophy when it’s all said and done.

Best Case Scenario: Super Bowl Champions

All they have to do is repeat what they did last year, but not commit a late-game penalty that ultimately lost them the Super Bowl last season. While that is easier said than done, we have seen them do it once, how hard could it be to do it again?

Worst Case Scenario: First round playoff exit

Jalen Hurts ends up having a tough year, and they have to face off in an unfavorable matchup as either the 5 or 6 seed in the playoffs. Anything short of one playoff win would be considered a massive failure of a season with this team, but with lackluster defensive play and an inability to move the ball with the new RBs, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
