Main Character: The Masters

Hello friends, and welcome to the 2023 Masters Tournament.

The best golf week of the season is upon us as the first day of the Masters begins today. It's shaping up to be one of the most competitive tournaments in recent history as the World No. 1 and defending champ Scottie Scheffler looks to retain his green jacket and join the likes of Tiger, Jack Nicklaus, and Nick Faldo to successfully defend Augusta National.

The Favorites

🇺🇸 Scottie Scheffler. The obvious choice for many to win this year's Masters is Scheffler. Coming off a 4th place finish from the Dell Match Play and picking up wins at both the WM Phoenix Open and Players Championship, he's shown that there is absolutely zero flaw in his game. Question: if Scheffler wins, who awards him his green jacket? Is it himself? Do they just shove Tiger in there? We may get to find out Sunday.

🇪🇸 Jon Rahm. Rahm has definitely cooled down as of late, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have what it takes to win the Masters. Rahm's best finish at the Masters is 4th place, and getting over the hump will likely mean great iron play and lights-out putting, both of which Rahm has in his arsenal.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Rory McIlroy. I know he isn't English but it's close enough, blame Apple not me. Rory has played upwards of 80 total holes at Augusta in preparation for this week's tournament. The Masters is the last on his list he needs to complete his career grand slam, and he's been close in many previous tournaments. He will look to continue his momentum from last year's -8 final round and solo second finish.

Dark Horses

🇺🇸 Will Zalatoris. In what has been a largely quiet season for Zalatoris, people might have soon forgotten the dominant stretch of golf he was playing throughout last year. He had two second place finishes at The Open and PGA Championship as well as a T-6 finish at Augusta just last year. A ball striker through and through, Zally has shown that he has the secret sauce to conquer this tournament.

🇦🇺 Jason Day. The former world number one is getting himself back on track after dropping as low as 172 in the world golf rankings. Day has gotten himself off to a great start to this season putting together 4 straight Top 10 finishes and making 7/8 cuts on the year. Day has shown he can win majors, can Augusta be the next giant that the Australian slays?

🇺🇸 Tiger Woods. It feels wrong classifying Tiger as a dark horse, but at this point in his career, heck his life, it's a miracle he is still playing golf. Ever since his 2019 performance, there will always be a glimmer of hope in the eyes of all golf fans thinking, 'maybe he can do it again.' The reality is this is very unlikely, but who knows, he is Tiger Woods after all.

As you ponder the 'what-if' of Tiger winning (I know you are, I am right now as I write this) consider this amazing video as the convincing proof you need that Tiger will be the 2023 Masters champion.

PGA & LIV Drama?

Golf Digest

The field this year is littered with LIV Tour players, many of which have won green jackets in the past. Notable players include Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, and Mr. par 67 himself, Bryson DeChambeau.

Reports from all over the course have been positive with many LIV players, and a few PGA players, blaming the media for stirring up such a divide between the players. At the end of the day, golf is golf, and regardless of the decisions they made, these players all have a common skill and common goal in mind. Plus it doesn't hurt to remain civil, right?

Regardless of who's playing, this year's tournament is sure to deliver some all-time Masters moments. We're just excited to watch it all play out.

You May Not Have Seen THIS 👀

If you aren't a part of the ultra elite or a contestant on Mr. Beast's channel, the chances of owning your own private island are slim to none. But for Reggie Bullock, he turned this dream of many into a reality.

The Mavericks' forward shelled out $2 million to purchase a 5 acre stretch of land in Belize that he has all to himself.

"I've been looking for different things to invest my money in. I found an opportunity down in Belize where I purchased an island that was about five acres that I am going to put resort villas on. It's a vacation spot for me and my family where other people will be able to attend and enjoy different vacation activities."

Luckily for Reggie, he will likely get a chance to visit soon as the Mavericks are on track to miss the playoffs and secure themselves a top 10 lottery pick.

The PGA Tour has been all about growing the game, and Roger Sali from Uganda is making sure he's doing his part from across the globe.

About last night...

It takes a big man to admit his mistakes.. and I am that big man. I should never trust Rick Bowness this late in the season; I saw it in Dallas far too often. The under was never really in question as both these teams have rock solid defenses. I'm still the Prince of Puck though, don’t you worry.

🏒 NHL:: Bruins -150 vs. Maple Leafs

Personally, if I were a sports book, I would never have the Bruins below -180 when they're playing at home. Boston is a whopping 31-4 at home this season SU. They beat the Leafs in two of their first three meetings, and most importantly, in the two most recent games. The Bruins are sitting at 125 points on the season, eyeing the record of 132 set by the 1976-77 Canadiens. Back the numbers here and ride the Bruins as they chase history.

🏒 NHL:: NJ Devils -1.5 (-150) vs. Columbus

The Blue Jackets REALLY want Connor Bedard first overall in next year's draft. New Jersey is still fighting for command of the Metropolitan division behind Carolina. A lot is on the line in the last few games for both of these teams. New Jersey won the last home game 7-1 and won their away game 3-2. I like New Jersey to put the hurt on Columbus. Also, I don’t mind the over at 6.5, however I am hesitant if it is only at 7. I see this as a 5-2 final.

🏒 NHL:: Buffalo vs. Detroit over 6.5

🚨 BET OF THE MONTH ALERT. HIT THE ALARM MR. EDITOR. 🚨

I absolutely love love love this pick, and I'm shocked it isn’t 7 in most books already. The first three matchups totaled 11, 9, and 9 goals in each of their previous matchups. Buffalo has slowed their rolls on overs recently but that doesn’t scare me. If anything, I see more value in this pick. I will be placing a 2, maybe 3, unit play on this pick. I love it. This will be a fun game. I will also sprinkle a half unit on Buffalo -115 since they have won the first three matchups this year. The parlay sits around +230 for both the over and Buffalo ML…. just saying.

As per usual, do you what you must with this valuable information.

🐣 Tweet of the Day 🐣

Photo corroboration helped verify the authenticity of Babe's bat which set a record for most expensive baseball bat ever purchased. Too bad it wasn't a Louisville Slugger, if you know, you know.

☝️ Snagged's Top Play ☝️

If you're new here, or you missed yesterday's edition (you should go back an read it, t'was a banger) each edition of Snagged from here on out will feature a play of the day. Eventually, plays will be decided by you guys voting, but until then, I will be the sole vote holder of the day's top play.

Today's is a doozy, and likely something very few have ever accomplished.
