The Saga Continues

+ Mr. Covers has our first football pick in of the season

Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the world of football today:

🏈 Two Heavyweights Going At It

🤍 Match Ma(yo)de

🚀 ...and much more! Let's get into it.

👑 Main Character

To say Reggie Bush and the NCAA aren’t friends might be a bit of an understatement.

Yesterday, Bush notified the NCAA that he would be filing for defamation for their comments after his 2021 investigation suggested that “pay for play” was still breaking the rules. Bush was seeking his Heisman award and records to be reinstated, but the NCAA cited the benefits he received at the time were, and still are, against the rules.

It’s alleged that Bush, while playing at USC, was given…

  • Cash

  • All expenses paid travel

  • San Diego home

Right now, this is probably what the average Alabama player is given, but you have to remember, in 2004, this was considered a heinous crime, that for some reason, Bush received the brunt of the punishment.

There’s no denying that Bush was an incredible force during his time with the Trojans, just see for yourself, but the near 20 year battle against these two may never end, especially after the introduction of NIL into the fold.

Bush plans to speak on his defamation case later today at the home of USC football where hopefully he can get some traction on the case.

🗞️ In Other News…

Will Levis went viral during the NFL Combine after his comments about putting mayonnaise in his coffee. Well, turns out the little things in life can turn into big sponsorship deals into the future (especially if you’re a pro athlete).

Levis inked a first-of-its-kind deal that not only allows him to become a spokesperson for Hellman’s Mayo, but also supplies him a lifetime’s worth of the condiment. If you’re into this kind of thing (mayo) then I guess it’s a good deal? But mayo has to be near the bottom of the list of things that one would want to have a lifetime supply of.

💰 Mr. Covers’ Corner

He’s baaaaaaack (with real football bets, not no preseason garbo). The first pick of the 2023 football season is in, and let’s just say that the football naturalists are going to love this one.

🏈 CFB: Navy +20.5 vs. Notre Dame / Under 50.5 total points

Here. We. Go.

The first college football game picks of the year are in, and boy do I love them. First of all, each of these coaches have a strong history on the defensive side of the ball, which bodes well for both a close(ish) game and a lower scoring game.

Second of all, two new offensive coordinators helps our case again for a closer, and lower scoring game. Navy will continue to run the ball far more successfully and frequently than how they will pass it. I think Notre Dame will be impacted more by the change in coordinator here than anything else. I expect a fun game that will end somewhere around a 13-17 point win for Notre Dame.

Football is all the way back.
