Return to Glory
+ a NY Jets team preview
Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the world of football today:
🏈 Stand Outs and Stragglers
✈️ NY Jets Preview
🚀 ...and much more! Let's get into it.
👑 Main Character
NFL football returned to our screens last night for the first time since the Kansas City Chiefs walked off the field as Super Bowl Champions, and it was glorious. Even though we were watching backups and the backups’ backups all essentially fighting for roster spots, it was refreshing to see the sport we all love being played on live TV again.
Stand Outs
With scores and records irrelevant during this time, we’ll focus on the guys that caught our attention in each of the games last night.

Tank Dell, the Houston Texans’ third round draft pick, turned heads with his five reception, 65 yard, one touchdown performance. The 5-foot-8 target seemed to be open all night long, and has a real chance at a big time role in the receiver room down in Houston.
Jordan Addison turned in the catch of the night (even though it was ruled not a catch, but trust us, it was) and looks to be the real deal. Addison did end up leaving the game with a concussion, so it could be likely we don’t see him again until Week 1 of the regular season.
Stragglers
Some players just might need some time to come into form, and so was the case last night for some of the guys out on the field.

CJ Stroud, the No. 2 pick in the draft, struggled to find his rhythm after tossing an interception for his ‘welcome to the NFL’ moment’. He went on to finish the game with just 13 yards on four attempts. He’ll be fine, he just needs time to adapt to the system, but Davis Mills’ stock shot way up after both Stroud’s and his own performance last night.
Everything in the preseason should be taken with a grain of salt as everyone is simply trying to get back into the swing of things. Will we still have reactions? Of course, but will we take everything we learn from the preseason with us into the start of the regular season? We should try our best not to (but also, probably yes).

👀 Team Preview
Welcome to Snagged Sports’ NFL team previews! Each day leading up to the NFL regular season, we’ll cover one (maybe two) teams to get you all caught up.
Next on the list: the New York Jets

Last year’s record: 7-10
Result: missed the playoffs
The New York Jets are riding the highest heading into the 2023 NFL season. They acquired the best quarterback they have had in years, Aaron Rodgers, and claim one of the best defenses in all of the NFL.
The Jets are repping a young young team, but it is all falling together nicely. Sauce Gardner is emerging as the top corner in the league, and fellow youngin’ Garrett Wilson is looking to lead the air raid offense with a breakout sophomore season. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is also coming up as potentially the next best down lineman behind Aaron Donald while running back Breece Hall is still recovering from a season-ending leg injury.
While all of this is good and well, the question remains, can the Jets put together a solid season from start to finish. They have not made the playoffs since 2010, and have only been a part of the playoffs 14 times in over 60 years as a franchise.
Best Case Scenario: AFC East Champs
Like we mentioned yesterday, this division is loaded with talent from top to bottom, but if everything clicks like everyone says it will, then this team should find a way to overtake the Bills in the AFC East.
If Aaron Rodgers has an MVP-caliber season like we know he can while the defense finishes as top-10, even top-5 in the league, this team could go deep in the playoffs.
Worst Case Scenario: miss the playoffs…again
If Rodgers fails to click with his new team, then the wheels start to fall off the wagon. The Jets’ are a historically reactive team, and if the smallest thing doesn’t work out, the season goes downhill quite fast.
The defense should be able to keep up an at-worst average unit, but if the offense isn’t there, this team will struggle to keep up with the other powerhouses in the AFC, leading to another year outside of the playoffs.
🥊 Quick Hits

Phillip Rivers was the 49ers’ emergency quarterback plan had the team made it to the Super Bowl.
The No. 1 defensive end in the country is headed to Austin, TX.
Vikings’ receiver Justin Jefferson made the catch of the day and didn’t even touch the field.
Former Baylor head coach Art Briles is back to coaching.
Bucs’ QB Baker Mayfield says that he was ‘never played with a wide receiver on the same level as Mike Evans’.
