Japan is on top of the baseball world, SlamBall is back, and Mr. Covers takes a much needed break
Welcome back to another edition of Snagged Sports, where we ✨snag✨ all of the best stories in sports and serve them up on a screen near you. In today's edition, Japan is on top of the baseball world, SlamBall is back, and Mr. Covers takes a much needed break. Let's get into it.

Main Character: Japan
It was an instant classic as soon as the WBC Finals came down to the two best baseball players in the world fighting to stay alive for the last out of the game. Ultimately, with two outs in the 9th inning, Shohei Ohtani threw a couple of 100 mph fastballs past Mike Trout and secured the gold medal for team Japan. Just listen to this incredible call from the Japanese broadcast to see if this meant something to the players, teams, and countries.
Japan now becomes the only country to win the WBC three times, but this time felt a bit different. Until this year, teams haven't sent out their best talent for fear of injury or fatigue before the MLB season, so this year, the big guns showed up to compete for their countries to try and win the whole thing.
Trout and Ohtani will go back to the same MLB camp in the next couple of games, as well as the rest of the players from across the world, and the focus will shift to the World Series, but none of us will soon forget the drama and intense atmosphere the WBC brought to us in 2023.

Queue "Basketball" by Kurtis Blow because the newest version SlamBall is back!
The hard-hitting, high-flying basketball league from the past is being revived as a 2023 season will kick off this July in Las Vegas. The season will consist of a six week regular season followed by one week of playoffs to determine the ultimate SlamBall champion.
According to CBS Sports, fans racked up over 200 million views on the social media campaign, #BringBackSlamBall, that inspired the league to make a comeback.
Basketball fans, football fans, and fans of obscure sports everywhere will be tuning in to Slamball's first season since 2008, and from the simply viral nature of the sport, my guess is that it will be here to stay. Who says no to poster dunks and athletes jumping 12 feet in the air?

Talk about a come up. Tobin Anderson, who was coaching at a D2 level just one year ago, has secured himself a respectable D1 head coach position at Iona. The guy just can't stop winning.

❌ The First Ever “I’m walkin' OVER here” parlay
❌ Stars -160 vs. Kraken
About last night...
The Hurricanes and Rangers screwed me in the first ever NY parlay, but you can't tell me I didn't nail the other two legs. As for the Stars, they did their best after sending the game to OT with 3 goals in the third period, but it wasn't enough for a comparable Kraken team. 0-2 hasn't phased me before, and it won't start now.
The Rest of the Week
A note from Mr. Editor:
Mr. Covers will not be providing any picks this week as he takes a much needed break from the betting game. Don't worry, he will return soon, and hopefully, with nothing but winners.
🐣 Tweet of the Day 🐣
Ohtani’s pregame speech:
“Let’s stop admiring them… If you admire them, you can’t surpass them. We came here to surpass them, to reach the top. For one day, let’s throw away our admiration for them and just think about winning.”

Inspiring stuff from the WBC MVP. Unfortunately for Team USA, that Japan squad held on to every word that came out of Ohtani's mouth.
