Main Character: Moving On
Whether it's finding a new home, advancing to the finals, or simply rebuilding a team, yesterday's news largely involved people and teams moving on to their next chapter. Luckily, none of the below sections are about Lebron or KD, they're staying put, for now at least.
Rick Pitino
Rick Pitino has been searching for a way back up from his career altering allegations from his time in Louisville, and he just might have found the first solid step up.
Iona took a flyer on Coach Pitino and hired him to be their next head coach. He lead Iona to their first MAAC Championship since 2021 and secured a 13 seed for the Gaels, all in his first year. UConn had their way with Iona as the red hot Huskies easily advanced, but it was enough to garner interest from bigger programs across the country.
Coach Rick Pitino is back again into a Power 6 conference in college basketball with St. John's University. His coaching will be greatly appreciated from a school that has high expectations within the Big East, but his character and actions off the court will be highly monitored. Until he proves he can be a coach that plays fair and within NCAA rules, he will have to work harder than most to get back to his glory days.
Houston Texans
After essentially giving up the #1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft due to their Week 18 win, the Texans have not had anything to celebrate, but all that might be changing, and soon.
Houston went on and signed former Dallas Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz, veteran back Devin Singletary from the Buffalo Bills, and negotiated a contract to keep stalwart Laremy Tunsil on the offensive line. Now, they did let go of one of their most reliable weapons in WR Brandin Cooks, but it's clear that the Texans are entering full rebuild mode.
Paying the guys they want to set up a future of success for whichever QB they draft (by all accounts it will be Bryce Young) is essential for Houston, and with the moves they made in the past couple of days, I'd say the are starting to move on up.
Japan
Speaking of moving on, Japan pulled out some late game heroics as Munetaka Murakami blasted a walk-off double, scoring two runs, to secure a Finals appearance in the World Baseball Classic against the USA.
Randy Arozerena had the play of the game (up until the walk-off) with his home run robbery in the 5th inning to keep Japan off the scoreboard, but ultimately, it was the bats of Murakami and Ohtani that brought life to the Japanese squad to send them to their 4 championship in as many tries.
USA vs. Japan will be tonight at 5:00PM CST, so grab your peanuts and cracker jacks, because we are in for a treat.

Madness isn't just for the men.
An incredible upset happened last night in the women's bracket as the Miami Hurricanes knocked off 1 seed Indiana in a stunning, and frankly, unexpected, victory for the squad. It was the first time since 2009 that a 1 seed in the NCAAW Tournament has not advanced past the Round of 32. That's not company that you want to join.
Miami forced the game into OT, and with just 3.3 seconds left in the game, put up a tough shot that would ultimately send Miami into the Sweet 16. Miami was full of swagger and truly believed they belonged - shushing the crowd and even in the vibrant post game conference after the win.
It's always fun to see college basketball madness unfold, and I'm sure this won't be the last we see of 'The U' in this tournament.

Keyontae Johnson suffered one of the scariest injuries you can have on the court, but that didn't stop him in returning to the sport he loves. Check out Keyontae's incredible journey that has ultimately lead him to the Sweet 16.

❌ NY Knicks -8.5 vs. Minnesota
✅ Florida -1.5 (+130) vs. Detroit
About last night...
These are still the Knicks, but after that defensive performance, they are no longer MY Knicks. It was a brutal one to watch. As for my Panthers pick, I never really had a sweat. We will always take a 1-1 night!
The First Ever “I’m walkin' OVER here” parlay @ +600
🏀 Cavs vs. Nets O 218.5
🏒 Leafs vs. Islanders O 6
🏒 Hurricanes vs. Rangers O 6
Ol' Covers is off to the Big Apple for the rest of the week, and in honor of this, i have cooked up a three team New York parlay. I love the Nets and Rangers over, and, according to my calculations, I think the Islanders can get there too. If you’re afraid of the parlay, I advise you just play the Rangers/Hurricanes over 6 goals.
🏒 NHL: Stars -160 vs. Kraken
The boys are hot. Some might even say scorching. The Stars took both of their matchups last week, and I expect that trend to continue.
As per usual, do you what you must with this valuable information.

The footage of the historic call following Furman's buzzer beater win was released on Twitter yesterday, and if this doesn't get you hyped, then I'm not sure much else will.
🤑 Hot Takes Tuesday 🤑
The Sweet 16 is set, and before they take to the court on Thursday, I want to take this time and correctly pick all Elite Eight teams. Of course, there will be no mistakes and no bias, so you can take these to the bank.
