The Debut, Back-To-Back, and much more!
Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the sports world today:
🤠 The Debut(s)
🐯 Back-To-Back
🚀 ...and much more! Let's get into it.
👑 Main Character
It’s what the whole world had been waiting to see for the past six months: Wembanyama’s Summer League debut.
It’s only been one weekend, but with the amount of coverage this guy garners, it seems like we have been watching him for weeks. His first game with the Spurs since hearing his name called will probably be one of the most anticipated things that happen all NBA season long, and boy did it disappoint.
"Honestly, I didn't really know what I was doing...I'm trying to learn."

Not exactly what you want to hear from, “possibly the greatest team sport prospect in the history of sports.” He finished his debut against the Hornets with just 9 points (on 2-13 shooting from the field), 8 rebounds, 5 blocks and one embarrassing “welcome to the NBA” moment. I know I couldn’t get five blocks, but I think I could handle the rest of that stat line on my own.
As we do in the media, he got obliterated, with critics and fans alike labeling him a bust after just one game. A bit of an overreaction? A lot.
Luckily for Victor, he got to show his stuff again last night, and to say he heard from the critics and answered them would be an accurate statement.

Now that’s more like it. We all deal with ups and downs, and the same goes for 7-foot-5 forwards in the NBA.
Victor Wembanyama with 22 points 10 rebounds and 2 blocks on 64% shooting in 22 minutes. Maybe one game wasn't the end of Wemby's career...

One game should never define a career, especially if it’s your first ever start on the biggest stage available. Wemby is going to be good to go, but just how good is now the question. The No. 1 overall pick put it best in his postgame press conference:
“It’s time to hoop.”

Last night kicked off the first two rounds of the 2023 MLB Draft, and as we expected, history was made. LSU Tigers Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews became the first ever teammates to be drafted 1-2 in the history of the draft.
With how long baseball has been around, it’s hard to make history. This is an impressive feat
How cool is it that the guy you played alongside some of your best baseball with gets to revel in the fact you both are in the top of your class.
Cool stuff from the LSU boys.

FINAL IN CINCY
🇺🇸 USA 2 (3) - 2 (2) CAN 🇨🇦

It was a struggle we did not expect, but USA soccer came out on top against Canada after winning the penalty shootout 3-2.
The match was a rollercoaster of emotions. After going into extra time, Canada scored first, ripping away seemingly any chance of moving on in the Gold Cup, but luckily for the U.S., a shot from Gianluca Busio found the back of the net (eventually) to send the match into PK’s.
USA moved on to the semifinal round of the Gold Cup thanks to some solid play, and a little luck, but now, we can turn our attention to the women as they gear up for the World Cup that starts in just 10 days.
💰 Mr. Cover’s Football Corner
With football season fast approaching, it’s time to re-familiarize ourselves with what happened this offseason, and who the odds on favorites are to win the division, and the whole dang thing.
Today, we’re looking through a division that has had a roller coaster of emotions the past couple of decades.
NFC North
Lions +135, Vikings +300, Bears +330, Packers +375
I think the Lions are aggressively overpriced here. I get it, I really do. For the first time in seemingly forever, they have a good offense, so they will naturally garner more of the media’s attention.
But I think the value is on the Vikings.
The Vikings won the division last year with some of the greatest luck we have ever seen, but I don’t think they are all of the sudden totally out of the race for the division. Getting them now at +300 is insane value if you ask me.
Justin Fields showed serious signs of growth last year for the Bears and GM Ryan Pace did a fantastic job of getting pieces around Fields so that he can continue to grow. The Packers are not worth much attention until we see what Jordan Love can truly do. I think the Lions do end up winning this division but for value’s sake I will not be betting them.
I will indeed be backing the Vikings.
💵 Pick: Minnesota Vikings +300 (peep that K. Cousins stat line though)
