Heisman Watch
+ one Big 12 college football team might actually be back...
Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the world of football today:
🏈 Heisman Watch
🤘 They’re Back
🚀 ...and much more! Let's get into it.
👑 Main Character
College football season is knocking at the door with games starting as soon as next Saturday. What a time to be alive. While watching the games are fun and all, if we’re honest, much of the season spent during college football is wondering…
1.) who will the top 4 teams be for the CFP
and 2.) who will win the Heisman
Well, Snagged is here to give you the players with the best odds entering this season. We won’t cover each player on Heisman watch, just the ones we think have a legitimate chance at hoisting the best trophy in all of college football (sorry CFP trophy, the BCS trophy was wayyyy better anyway).
Caleb Williams +500
Williams is coming off last year’s Heisman campaign as the front runner to win the award and go back-to-back. USC has only gotten better in the offseason, and with the ease of the Pac-12 being how it is, Williams should see another year of success torching defenses and plowing over defenders.
Jayden Daniels +1000
LSU’s newest quarterback is receiving quite the hype entering into his last season of eligibility. Daniels is the classic dual-threat QB that many offensive coordinators dream of, and with success in the SEC West, he could find himself in New York when it’s all said and done.
Marvin Harrison Jr. +3000
The Ohio State wideout is has the highest odds of any non-QB in all of college football, and for good reason. The 6-foot-4 third year receiver returns to Buckeye Nation as the team’s best weapon after putting up pro numbers last season with 77 catches, 1263 yards, and 14 touchdowns. His genetic makeup also helps him out a bit I would imagine.
Joe Milton +2500
One of the more anticipating seasons for Tennessee in recent memory with live and die by the hands of quarterback Joe Milton. The successor to Hendon Hooker has a chance to be even better than he was, and if the Vols’ season ends with even a small margin of success in the SEC, watch out for Milton to become Tennessee royalty in a span of four months.
Drake Maye +1800
Some are calling Maye the ‘best pro-ready quarterback’ in this class. The quarterback repping UNC is the best they’ve had in a while, and with a successful campaign in the (dying) ACC, this guy Maye end up more than just a high pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
💰 Mr. Covers Corner
The Big 12 is one of the conferences this year that is going to look a lot different, and Mr. Covers is here to break it all down for you.
There are a few fresh faces this year in the Big 12 with BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston joining. This will also be the last year for the conference’s two biggest faces, OU and Texas. With that established, let’s dive in.
Hear me out: I think Texas might actually be back. Quinn Ewers is entering his second season as a starter after an injury-riddled first year behind center. Texas has one of the most talented offenses in the country, as well as one of the best O-Lines. Their biggest knock is usually beating the teams they should beat and playing down to their mediocre opponents (which there are many in the Big 12). We will find out very quickly if they are for real in their second game against future conference foe, Alabama. Ultimately, the biggest reason I like Texas is because of how down the Big 12 is as a whole this year.
OU will be better than they were last year, but they still won't be their normal elite OU selves. Give it a couple years though, and they should be competitive again in the SEC. TCU will fall back down to earth after losing plenty of key players, although I think I will be backing them on a per-game basis ATS later in the season. OSU, Baylor, and Texas Tech will all be solid but not good enough to back for bets on their future.
The only real competitor to Texas is Kansas State. KSU and Utah were in a rock fight for who was the quietest conference champion last year, but I think KSU takes the cake. The Wildcats are returning ~basically~ everyone, including their entire veteran offensive line and NINE sixth-year seniors. If not for the fact that they will have 25-year-olds playing against 19 and 20-year-olds, the reloaded Wildcats will likely be back in the Big 12 Championship this year.
As per usual, this might be the weakest of the Power 5 conferences. The newcomers are mediocre, the staples are weak, and in general, I think a lot of these games will be sloppy (I love it). Listen I don't like this any more than you do, but it's a down year for everyone but Texas. What I like is Texas to win the CFP at +2000, Texas to make the CFP at +1400, and Texas to win the Big 12 at +100.
👀 Team Preview
Welcome to Snagged Sports’ NFL team previews! Each day leading up to the NFL regular season, we’ll cover one (maybe two) teams to get you all caught up.
Next on the list: the Baltimore Ravens
Last year’s record: 10-7
Result: Lost in Wild Card round
This year’s Baltimore Ravens won’t be your typical Ravens teams of the past.
They brought in a new offensive coordinator in Todd Munken to help revamp the scheme and style of play that many fans have probably never seen from a Baltimore team. His goals for the season?
Run less, especially with Lamar Jackson
Get wide receivers more incorporated
Spread the love
For the first time in his career, Jackson has a solid group of offensive weapons at his disposal, which in theory, reduces the amount of production he has to give on his own. OBJ joins the team after taking last season off recovering from an ACL injury, and Zay Flowers, the team’s first round pick, has the elusiveness and quickness that is only comparable to one player: Lamar. A match made in heaven. Mark Andrews returns to the team and will be, for yet another season, one of the most reliable receivers in the building.
The o-line returns 80% of their core from last year, and Lamar is singing his praises for that. They finished 5th overall in the PFF grades last season, so who’s to say they can’t run it back?
The defense suffered the most this offseason with four key players in Justin Houston, Calais Campbell, Marcus Peters and Chuck Clark all departing from the team. Overnight, the Ravens got a whole lot younger, and players like Tyus Bowser and Odafe Oweh will need to step into a much bigger role this season.
The linebacker group for this team is its strong spot, with an elite duo in Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith holding it down and leading the defense. They are certainly one of the best interior backers in the league, and the unit will rely heavily on them to produce big numbers this season.
Is it a Ravens preview if we don’t mention arguably their best player? Justin Tucker might end up as the game’s best kicker ever, and he returns ready to battle for his team.
Best Case Scenario: AFC Championship
If Jackson and this new air-raid style of offense click, this team can make it far on their offense alone. The defense is likely to decline, but if the top guys in the unit perform at their peak, this team could be dangerous.
Worst Case Scenario: Miss the playoffs
The alternative to the air-raid not working would be catastrophic for the Ravens’ season. If the receivers and Jackson can’t get on the same page, and they have to go back to the rushing game, they will become one-dimensional and will have a tough time making it into the top-7 spots in a loaded AFC.
