GOAT Debate

+ the coolest sporting event of the year

Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the world of football today:

🏈 Oh No Joe
🌽 Back to Back Cornhusker News??
🚀 ...and much more!

Let's get into it.

👑 Main Character

Old head football players will always be known for having old head takes, but even this claim from Hall of Fame Niners quarterback Joe Montana is a bit too far leaning to the game of the past.

When asked to name who he thought was the Best QB of All-Time, the four-time Super Bowl winner named Dan Marino. Interesting….interesting, interesting.

I would not have blamed him for picking himself. I would not have blamed him for picking a Manning. I would not have even blamed him for picking Troy Aikman or even Drew Brees, but placing Marino atop the QB mountain is one that takes a lot of explaining. Here’s what Mr. Montana said about his choice:

I think Marino is one of the unsung heroes of the game. People don’t talk enough about him or realize the numbers that he put up during the times that he put them up. He had the perfect torque of his upper body and strength to deliver the ball quickly at a fast release with accuracy.” - Joe Montana via TMZ Sports

Don’t get me wrong here, Marino is a great quarterback, but let’s take a look at his stats and accolades head-to-head against the other quarterback that 98% of people would label the best: Tom Brady.

🐐 Tom Brady (23 seasons)

  • 6x Super Bowl winner

  • 3x NFL MVP

  • 286 wins (.754 win %)

  • 89,214 yards / 649 TD’s

🐬 Dan Marino (17 seasons)

  • 0x Super Bowl Winner

  • 1x NFL MVP

  • 147 wins (.607 win %)

  • 61,361 yards / 420 TD’s

Even taking the most basic of stats, Brady is the clear front runner.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but when the opinion is objectively wrong, people (and Snagged Sports) are going to come after you. Good luck defending this one for a while Joe.

🗞️ In Other News…

Before you come at me for talking about volleyball, just remember this happened inside a football stadium, so back off…But in all seriousness, Nebraska volleyball pulled off one of the coolest sporting events of the year. They broke the record for attendance at a women’s sporting event with 92,003 people in the stands for their game against Omaha, and for the cherry on top, swept the game in straight sets. Can’t wait to see more universities hop on this trend in the future.

The former 5 star recruit turned HBCU legend turned Colorado Buffalo, Travis Hunter, has some spicy takes when it comes to this year’s Heisman race. Hunter hopped on stream to talk about what he thinks will happen regarding this year’s highly coveted college award, and it’s no surprise when you see who he put at number one.

🏈 CFB: #14 Utah -4.5 vs. Florida

Let’s not forget though the incredible play this game brought us last season that put No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson on the map against Utah! Ok, now to the good stuff.

Although Utah quarterback Cam Rising is likely out, this line is inflated pretty heavily for how far apart these two teams are talent-wise.

Florida is a team that I will be looking to put my money on next year, or possibly later this year. The Gators coming in with a new QB and an overall lack of experience across both sides of the ball will hurt their ability to keep this game within a touchdown.

On the other hand, Utah is returning 9 starters on defense and 7 on offense, both of which were above average last year. Yes, Cam Rising being out hurts this Utah team, and if this were Week 8, or even Week 2, I would be a lot more hesitant to back the Utes here. With it being Week 1 however, Utah has likely had some level of a contingency plan for Rising not being ready. Back the Utes at home in the first notable game college football game of the year.
