More Than A Resort, NBA Offseason Is Back, and much more!

Good morning everyone, and Happy Juneteenth! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the sports world today:

🏆 More Than A Resort

🏀 NBA Offseason Is Back

🚀 ...and much more! Let's get into it.

👑 Main Character

After starting the week at 100-1 odds to win the U.S. Open, Wyndham Clark came out on top of the golf world when all was said and done. He played amongst some of the biggest names in golf, including Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Rickie Fowler in the last two groups, but certainly played like he belonged among them. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy handled the pressure of playing in the last group on a Sunday at a major, and in the end, showed the golf world what all he is capable of.

After going as low as -12 late in his round, Clark had some wiggle room to give up some bogeys, and managed to keep his composure to two-putt from 60 feet on the 18th green to win the tournament at -10. This win marks just his second-ever PGA Tour win, with his first coming earlier this year at the Wells Fargo Championship. Talk about building momentum.

Among the players who came up short:

  • Rory McIlroy finished just one shot back and missed out on yet another major win. He has yet to win any major since he hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy in the 2014 PGA Championship.

  • Scottie Scheffler is still figuring out his putting, but the World No. 1 golfer still managed a measly third place finish.

  • Rickie Fowler, after leading or co-leading for 54 holes, had the pressure get to him as he shot his tournament-worst 75 to close out his U.S. Open. All signs of a Rickie return are a full go, and for the sake of the game, we hope he’s here to stay. Golf is more fun when Rick is playing well.

  • Max Homa and Justin Thomas both missed the cut, but that didn’t stop them from commentating the final round (while maybe a bit wine drunk?).

A happy belated Father’s Day to all the dads out there, including one Christian Pulisic, the father of American soccer at the moment. Team USA took home the CONCACAF Nations League championship, and what better way to celebrate than with the fam?

🐣 Tweet of the Day

It’s just about that time of year to turn on Twitter notifications for Mr. Adrian Wojnarowski as his Woj bombs will start to drop more frequently pretty soon. His first bomb of the offseason however might have come to the surprise of many, including Chris Paul.

Longtime Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal was dealt to the Phoenix Suns for Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, and multiple second round picks and pick swaps. The NBA really hasn’t had a true Big 3 in a while (I refuse to count Harden, Durant, and Irving during their time in Brooklyn), but it looks like they’re back on the rise. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and now Deandre Ayton, will all be fighting for the same cause, but will also tie up more than $200 million dollars in the Suns’ cap space. Good luck Phoenix, we hope it works out for you! (Not)

About last weekend...

I want it on the record that I was ahead of the curve in believing in Wyndham Clark, but I just didn’t believe enough. He played some incredible golf all four days, hitting seemingly every fairway and green in regulation. However, I am here to announce I will be fading him in the Open.

⚾️ MLB: Astros -130 vs. Mets

Normally, I would rather slice my left arm off and give up my first born child than feel any sort of positive feelings about the Houston Astros winning a baseball game, but I will put my emotions aside for now. The Mets are playing some of the worst baseball in the league currently, so give me the ‘Stros at home.

⚾️ MLB: Red Sox vs. Twins NRFI / U 8 runs

Baseball sickos and perverts, that’s who this game is for. This is going to be a disgusting game among these two average teams. No runs in the first and probably barely any thereafter. The Red Sox are just above .500 on the road for the under, and Minnesota is 20-14-3 on unders at home. The worst case scenario here would be a push, and I’d take that all day.
