The Drought Is Over

Mile High Magic, Heartbreak Horns, and much more!

Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the sports world today:

🍾 Mile High Magic

💔 Heartbreak Horns

🚀 ...and much more! Let's get into it.

👑 Main Character

For the first time in franchise history, the Denver Nuggets are NBA Champions. The 47 year drought is over, and Nikola Jokic can rest easy knowing that he brought his adopted city a ‘ship.

The obvious choice for Finals MVP finished his playoff run as the first player in postseason history to lead the field in points (600), rebounds (269), and assists (190). The two-time MVP, with his newly acquired Finals MVP trophy, becomes just one of four current players to have 3+ MVP awards joining Steph, Lebron, and Giannis. Goat status? He’s certainly reaching that point.

The Nuggets finished their playoff run as one of the most dominant teams in the NBA, going 16-4 with no real challengers threatening their eventual title win. The question now is, can they become a dynasty? Jokic and Murray are still in their mid twenties, Michael Porter Jr. is still well in his prime, and role players like KCP and Christian Braun are young talent on smaller deals. Watch out NBA world, because these guys are likely not going anywhere anytime soon.

🥺 Wholesome Content

If you know about the NBA, you have probably come to learn that the Jokic family is as tight-knit as it gets. The Jokic brothers, as they’re commonly referred to as, are seen here throwing head coach Michael Malone after rushing the court after the Nuggets championship win.

This is joy personified, and if this doesn’t bring a smile to your face to start the day, then I’m not sure what else will.

🐣 Tweet of the Day

Bias aside, this is one of the funnier ways to punch your ticket to the College World Series there is. A walk-off is a walk-off, but for Texas and the Horns fans, it’ll be a moment they think about for a while. Bitter pill.

Monday’s Results:

❌ Rays -1.5 vs. A’s

🟡 Royals vs. Reds U 9 runs

About last night...

I am truly at a loss for how the A’s have done this to me, to you, to the city of Oakland, and to America as a country. Six (6!!!) straight wins. This is a good lesson on when to give up on a team that you just can’t get on the right side of. The chances are that if I were to bet on the A’s, they would likely rattle off 10 straight losses. I’m giving it until the All-Star break then I will come storming back against the A’s.

⚾️ MLB: Yankees vs. Mets YRFI

I have been neglecting my first inning runs bets, but baby I’m back. Luis Severino is only two starts removed from giving up 6 runs in the first against the Dodgers, and Max Scherzer has shown his age this year. Remember, one run is all we need.

⚾️ MLB: Mariners -145 vs. Marlins

Sometimes you just see the board and a play jumps out and smacks you in the face. This that play. The Mariners are hovering around .500 at home this year, and the Marlins are just below .500 on the road. Give me the Mariners in this coin flip.
