Cut Day
+ one Nebraska player is in some deep trouble
Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the world of football today:
🏈 Trimming Down
🌽 Nebraska Robbery
🚀 ...and much more!
Let's get into it.
👑 Main Character
Michael Scott 🤝 NFL Teams
Snip snap, snip snap
All 32 NFL teams trimmed their rosters down to just 53 men, and some of the results were a little shocking to say the least. While there were a lot of cuts happening all across the league, we’ll cover just a few, and if that doesn’t do it for you this morning, we got the full list of all the happenings ready in waiting.
Patriots heading into the season with just one QB
In one of the biggest head-scratchers of the day, the Patriots not only decided to let go of preseason favorite Malik Cunningham, but also said goodbye to backup Bailey Zappe. That leaves just one man in the QB room for New England heading into Week 1: Mac Jones.
You have to respect the confidence the Patriots’ have in Jones, but with the quality of play those other two guys put in during the preseason, and even what Zappe did for the team last season in a couple of starting spots, it does not make sense to leave zero room for error. We should never be ones to criticize Coach Belichick, but this time, it warrants a least a side-eye of confusion.
Does this leave the door open for a Tom Brady return? The rumors are HOT.
Kickers were a hot commodity
There were three (THREE!) kicker trades in the span of 24 hours while teams tried to solidify their rosters before the deadline.
Will Lutz is headed to Denver to reunite with Coach Peyton and the Broncos.
Dustin Hopkins was traded to Cleveland, and as we mentioned yesterday, will fill in for the recently cut Cade York.
Nick Folk, one of the best to ever do it, is now a Tennessee Titan (another weird move for New England)
We haven’t seen that much action from the kicker position maybe ever?
The Jags kept it strictly business
It’s not until you see stories like the one out of Jacksonville that you realize the NFL is a cold, cold business. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson had to make the tough decision to cut his son, Josh, from the team. As a player, you could probably live with the fact that getting cut is just a part of the process, but to have your dream of playing NFL football crushed by your dad is probably a whole ‘nother level…
🗞️ In Other News…
It’s safe to say that the former Georgia, LSU, and now Nebraska tight end Arik Gilbert won’t be seeing the field this season. A disturbing video was released yesterday of Gilbert kicking down a door, robbing a liquor and vape shop, and subsequently being arrested. The reported amount “stolen” was upwards of $1600 dollars. What an idiot - a career down the drain all for nothing.

For all those ‘Wholesome Content’ fans out there, here’s the story for you! Former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin and quarterback Eli Manning are teaming up once again to fight against childhood cancer.
…
Fans everywhere were confused about the use of endzone display “play football” during this preseason instead of phrases like “it takes all of us” and “end racism” that have been prominently used the past couple of seasons. While it doesn’t really matter, here’s the cool initiative behind the phrase used throughout the preseason. The usual phrases of years past will be here for the start of the regular season.

🟡 CFB: Ohio State @ Indiana Over 59 total points
Can Penn State be the team everyone thinks they can be this year? Maybe, but first, they have to get through the frisky Mountaineers.
🏈 CFB: Penn State -20.5 vs. West Virginia
I am definitely bullish on Penn State's ability to win the Big 10, so who says that they won't give out their fair share of ass-kickings this season? Penn is firmly planted as the third-best team in the Big 10 while West Virginia is a mediocre team in a middling Big 12.
This number, as high as it is, seems a few points too low in my opinion. They are the better team, have the better coach, and get the luxury of playing at home to open up the season. I love the Nittany Lions by at least 24 here.

🥊 Quick Hits
Jets QB Aaron Rodgers looks to be in midseason form with his trash talk.
Deion Sanders chose amputation over missing additional games last season at Jackson State.
The Colts were unable to find a worth-while deal for Jonathan Taylor. He will remain on the roster.
Vikings picked up RB Myles Gaskin off waivers after being cut by the Dolphins.
