It's A Cold World

+ NFL cut day is underway

Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the world of football today:

🏈 Wild Wild West
✂️ Cut Day
🚀 ...and much more! Let's get into it.

👑 Main Character

What in the world is going on in Arizona??

Final cuts for the team’s official 53-man roster will be decided later today, but the Cardinals shut the door on not only one of the more valuable players in the organization at the moment, but the projected Week 1 starting quarterback…

Colt McCoy was cut from the Cardinals yesterday after a trade was finalized earlier in the week for former Tennessee Titan, Joshua Dobbs. This isn’t meant to be a knock on anyone, but letting go of a seasoned vet with many years of experience within the franchise for a younger, inexperienced player while your (for now) franchise QB sits out with injury is an objectively questionable, and dare I say bad, decision.

The Cardinals’ Week 1 starting quarterback will now be either Joshua Dobbs, or the team’s fifth round pick this year, Clayton Tune, and first-year head coach Jonathan Gannon is waiting to pick his starter citing his desire of “wanting to maintain competitive advantage”.

Despite the fun names these two quarterbacks have (and they are quite fun), Arizona is blatantly showing the league they are in full tank mode, and will be in contention for the Caleb Williams sweepstakes. Just take a look at these projected skill players on offense. Again, not trying to be mean, just being honest.

QBs: Joshua Dobbs, Clayton Tune

RBs: James Connor, Keaontay Ingram, Corey Clement

WRs: Marquise Brown, Rondale Moore, Greg Dortch, Zach Pascal, Michael Wilson

Not ideal.

It’s going to look rough for this team going forward, and with the future up in the air with former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray, it might take a while for this team to return to relevancy in the NFL picture.

🗞️ In Other News…

Almost one year ago, the Cleveland Browns tweeted this out about kicker, Cade York. Now, he’s a casualty of roster cuts for the team. It’s a cold, cold world out there.

Today is a big day as we mentioned that all 32 NFL teams will slim down their rosters to 53 men. In tomorrow’s edition, we’ll break down all the notable cuts and also, the guys who made the team be the skin of their teeth. We have to remember though, NFL rosters are fluid all year long, so while the “final” roster is set, think of it more as a “Week 1 final roster”. Players get hurt, people change, and before you know it, a delivery driver off the street could be fighting for your favorite team’s chances at a Super Bowl.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the people in Florida being affected by Hurricane Idalia. Unfortunately for many universities in the state, games and schedules are having to be shifted around to keep everyone safe.

💰 Mr. Covers’ Corner

Now that football is officially back, expect Mr. Covers to dive head first into any and all football bets in both the collegiate and professional football world. Today, he’s starting with as close to a no brainer as a bet can get.

🏈 CFB: Ohio State @ Indiana Over 59 total points

When I think of early season Big 10 football, I think of Ohio State putting up 50+ points in a beatdown. But I also think of them still giving up 20 points in garbage time.

I love this over so much. I get to back Marvin Harrison Jr., both of their highly recruited QBs, new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, and of course, Ryan Day, who we all know loves to run up the score. This one can and will get ugly. To instill additional confidence, these two teams have hit the over in 7 of their last 10 matchups.

🎒CFB season record: 2-2-0

⭐️ NFL season record: 0-0-0
