Main Character: Quarterbacks
With rumors swirling every day about new landing spots for some of the top free agent quarterbacks in the NFL, we finally got a couple of answers to our questions. Now the question will be: did these teams make the right decision?
Derek Carr
ESPN
The first QB domino to fall into place was ex-Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.
Carr certainly had his options, but ultimately chose New Orleans on a 4-year $150M dollar deal in what was considered a 'perfect landing for all parties'. Multiple of Carr's now teammates rushed to social media to express their excitement including one of his new target's, Michael Thomas.
With this move, the Saints are now $55 million above the cap and will have to do a lot of restructuring and creative finance to get that number down to the league requirement. As for the Saints' attitude, they clearly believe Carr was worth the number and the financial headache in order to make a run for the NFC South title.
Geno Smith

If you're still waiting for Geno to write back, it isn't going to happen any time soon.
The Seahawks signed the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year to a 3-year $105M contract to be its quarterback for the near future. After being widely regarded as an NFL journeyman, Geno showed up in longtime Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson's departure, and showed why he deserves a starting spot.

The Celtics and Cavaliers played in an all-time regular season classic last night and ultimately saw the Cavs finish with the win, but it wasn't without some antics.
With the game tied at 109 with 0.8 seconds left in the game, Grant Williams headed to the free throw line, likely needing just one bucket to seal the win for the Celts. Williams decided to pipe up to Cavs' guard Donovan Mitchell and said "I'll make 'em both". *Narrator* he did not make them both. Actually, he missed them both which forced the game into OT.
Let this be a lesson to all of us that you should always do the trash talking after the buzzer has sounded and you pulled through in the clutch. A tough loss for the Celtics, but I'm sure it was a much tougher night for Mr. Williams. Maybe next time, bud.

💰 The Cover Corner 💰
Monday's Results:
❌ Cavaliers -6 vs. Celtics
❌ Stars ML -133 vs. Flames
About last night...
It’s halftime of the Cavs vs. Celtics game, and I’m using this entire section to talk about how much I hate the Cleveland Cavaliers and how unlucky I am betting them.
They are an unserious team and embody everything about their star player, Donovan Mitchell. They will maybe win one playoff series in his entire tenure in Cleveland. I bet over 30.5 points for Mitchell back on new year’s eve, and he scored 15 points. You might be thinking, oh covers that’s not that bad, just an off night for him. Well, the very next game, he goes and scores 71 points. I can’t make this up. I can’t bet this team anymore, and I especially don’t care how they finish. In betting, you have to know when you can’t figure a team out, and now, this is my Old Yeller.
🏒 NHL: Wild -141 vs. Flames + U 6 goals
This is a 70% a system play and 30% a personal vendetta against the Flames for what they have done, and continue to do, to MY Stars. The Wild just beat the Flames on Saturday, 3-0, and got to rest. Meanwhile, the Flames had to go to Dallas and will have to finish the second end of a back to back. Give me the Wild here with either a backup or tired goalie.
🏀 CBB: Georgia Tech -1.5 vs. Florida State
There's nothing like betting meaningful sports at 1pm on a Tuesday. If I knew more about Georgia Tech other than they are 6-2 ATS as favorites this year, then I might make this a Game of the Year. Florida State is not who they have been the past five years, and I’m not sure if they have dealt with injuries, or if the recruiting cycle was bad, but either way, it hasn't been good. FSU won the first meeting between these two teams, but I’m not worried. If this line moves at all, you can get it at a pick ‘em, but sharps are already all over the Yellow Jackets therefore so am I. It’s not quite as massive as a GOTY, but I’ll make it my lock of the week.
🏀 NBA: Knicks -9.5 vs Hornets + Knicks -6 first half
System play alert: a hot team versus a team that just lost their best player. The Hornets haven't won OR covered a spread in their first 3 games without Lamelo Ball, so why should we expect anything different? Back the Knicks in every way possible here, and if you were wondering, no, Knicks fever has not been cured.
🔮 March Madness Futures 🔮
For the next four days, Mr. Covers will be sharing his best futures for this year's Big Dance. As per usual, do what you must with this valuable information.
Houston Chronicle
Houston: +600
I know, this is sort of the boring pick considering that they are the current AP #1 and odds-on favorite. However, I highly suggest on all futures, you spread them out over a couple of different teams with one of them being a top 10 ranked team.
Pros: I love what Houston brings to the table - from unselfish offense, to grit and grind defense. Houston is a very well-rounded team. They also have the rare luxury in college basketball of experience as they currently start 3 juniors, a senior, and a star freshman in Jarace Walker. Marcus Sasser is the undoubted leader of this Houston team averaging 17 PPG, with over 20 points in 6 of the Cougars' last 7 games. A guard catching fire in March is key for any championship team (ask Shabazz Napier). Houston is 1st in Kenpom adjusted efficiency, 5th in adjusted offense, and 6th in adjusted defense. That's a recipe for success if I've ever seen one.
Cons: “They ain’t played nobody Paul.” When it comes to Houston basketball, they really haven’t played anyone, especially when compared to other top schools in the nation. The American Conference is a mediocre conference at best, but Houston is head and shoulders above the second place Memphis Tigers. The two notable out of conference games that Houston had were a home loss to Alabama (71-65), and a road win at Virginia (69-61). Some might say that St. Mary’s was also a tough non-conference matchup, but I say that two good teams that are both in mediocre conferences is only relatively tough. This team also lacks depth, with the starting 5 playing 25-30 minutes per game and their sixth man only playing 15. Houston may be the new Gonzaga - a team that can win plenty of games because of their weak conference schedule but stumbles in the tournament. There's only one way to find out.

I love a good nickname as much as the next guy, but come at the Mavs and get the hooves as they say. The Suns' don't have a good history against Dallas, so watch out for this name to be mentioned if these two meet up again in the playoffs.
🔥 Hot Takes Tuesday 🔥
Welcome back to Hot Takes Tuesday, where I get to have some hot takes, and you get to read about it! Today, we're going to be diving in on all the different scenarios remaining for NFL free agent QB's.
Lamar gets tagged. This is a lukewarm take at best, but rumors are swirling that the Ravens will use their franchise tag on the QB to keep him around for another year. Contract disputes have been holding up a deal to keep him in Baltimore for about a year now, so this will be a way to further those discussions while not having to worry about him moving on to a different team
Daniel Jones walks in free agency. Now this is more like it. Jones had a breakout season as far as he's concerned, and is now rumored to want a $45M per year contract. I don't know about that one Daniel...Yes, he vastly improved from his prior seasons, but let's not fool ourselves, Jones is not one of the elite QBs in the league. With Saquon Barkeley still to pay, along with the need for added weapons on both sides of the ball, it will be hard to please Jones into staying at under his expected mark.
Rodgers moves to NY. With all the rumors, seemingly year in and year out, of Aaron Rodgers leaving Green Bay, I think this is finally the year he finds himself a new home. He's done all he can do with the Packers, and their front office is unwilling to surround him with weapons to succeed. Longtime coach and friend, Nathaniel Hackett, is now on the Jets staff, and he would instantly be surrounded by some serious young talent in Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall. It makes too much sense, so Jets, make it happen.
