Headlines from the Weekend
This weekend featured so many great sports moments, but the sport to rule them all at the moment is clearly basketball. The pros are balling out, and with just over a month left in the NBA season, each game matters more than ever. As for college, there could not be more at stake as conference tournaments are only a week away.
High Scoring Affairs
On Friday night, the world witnessed the second highest scoring game in NBA history when the Kings defeated the Clippers 176-175 in double overtime. Yes, that was the actual score.
Malik Monk lead all scores with 45 points on the night with De'Aaron Fox right behind him with 42. Clearly, there was no defense to be seen as both teams shot near 60% from the field. The only thing we were hoping for: another overtime to break the all-time scoring record.
Inquirer Sports
Offense was the theme of the weekend in the NBA. Last night, Damien Lillard put up 71 points on 13 made three pointers. His total put him in a tie for 6th all-time for points scored in a single game behind Kobe's infamous 81, and of course, Wilt Chamberlain's 100 point game.
It looked like he could have broken the record as he went into the half with 41, but since it was against the league-worst Houston Rockets, Lillard didn't need to play very hard towards the end of the game. 71 under any circumstances is insane, and I'm just glad we got to see some more greatness.
PGA vs. LIV is underway
The PGA's season has been underway for a while now, but it's much anticipated rival in LIV Golf, officially began its season down in Mexico this past weekend.
It was a lackluster start to LIV's season at Mayakoba as The Crushers were the winning team. They won the event by nine shots, and Charles Howell III was the individual outright winner. Only 1/3 of the big name captains finished the tournament under par, and according to CW, the broadcast scored a 0.2 on its closing day. I'm not a TV guy, but 0.2 of anything can't be good.
Meanwhile, the PGA had its Honda Classic, but with not many big name players competing, you could consider it an off week for them. However, despite the big names, there was still drama as Chris Kirk battled back to force a playoff and win in said playoff.
Sparks will surely fly as it was announced that LIV players will be eligible to compete in all four majors, and if that isn't must see TV, then I don't know what is. As each of the league's seasons progress, things will become clearer if the two will be able to co-exist or if the PGA will be too much for LIV.
College Basketball was WILD

Is it March yet? It sure feels like it with all of the close games and buzzer beaters we saw this past weekend. We'll recap just some of the drama that went down in the college basketball world.
Arizona State
The Sun Devils, who are very much in the race for a tournament spot, shocked the No. 7 Arizona Wildcats on Saturday. ASU guard Des Cambridge took the ball with 2 seconds left and chucked a half-court shot that saw nothing but net as time expired to beat Arizona by 1. That's one way to keep your tournament hopes alive!
Iowa
The Hawkeyes came back from a 10 point deficit with just a minute and a half to go to force the game in to OT on a three ball from Payton Sandfort. It wasn't for a lack of intimidation, as Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery had quite the stare down with a ref during a timeout. Who knows, maybe it was just what the game needed for things to swing Iowa's way.
Both Michigan State and Iowa are vying for a bubble spot in the tournament, and every win counts this late in the season. This might have been the game to help Iowa reach its goal, but only time will tell.
Florida State
The Seminoles, who at this point don't have much to play for, went into Miami and knocked off the No. 13 Hurricanes on this buzzer beater three pointer. If you can't get into the tournament, playing the spoiler is the next best thing. Props to FSU for adding to the chaos that was this college basketball weekend.
Michigan
All hope for the season seem lost as Michigan was down 3 with 2 seconds left (sound familiar?) on the clock. But, All-American center Hunter Dickinson took the inbound pass and, you guessed it, drilled a three at the buzzer to send the game into OT.
The Wolverines went on to defeat Wisconsin in what seemed like a 'loser leaves town' game. Both teams will need deep runs in the Big 10 tournament to have a shot at a tournament bid, but thanks to Dickinson, not all is lost for Michigan.

Apparently, no lead is safe when it comes to Lebron James.
At one point, the Lakers were down 27, and teams facing that deficit this season in the NBA were 0-138 - until yesterday. The Lakers woke up mid-game and became a defensive juggernaut, allowing just 47 points in the second half to the Mavericks. Anthony Davis shined on both ends of the court with 30 points and 3 blocks, but if it wasn't for Jarred Vanderbilt's 6 of 8 shooting and his 8 offensive rebounds, the LakeShow doesn't get back in this game.
I'm not sure what's more impressive, the fact that Lebron and Anthony Davis look to be righting their team's ship, or that Kyrie and Luka, despite their other-worldly talent and skills, are now 1-3 together.

Friday's Results:
β Toronto -200 vs. Minnesota
β Knicks first half ML vs. Wizards
About this weekend...
The Leafs struggled against the stifling Minnesota defense, but they pulled through for us in overtime. A little sweat never hurt anyone.
As for that first half moneyline...the wizard came out absolutely red hot against the Knicks racking up 38 points in the first quarter. A tough one to come back from in just one quarter. We will take 1-1 on the weekend.
π NHL: Chicago ML +115 vs. Anaheim
Patrick Kane is back in Chicago, but not for long as he is waiting to be traded elsewhere. However, despite his impact on the ice, he has not been the only one on the Blackhawks creating offensive opportunities. Meanwhile, Anaheim is completely focused on their future with stud prospect Connor Bedard on the horizon. Give me the Blackhawks all day.
π NBA: Celtics ML -135 vs. Knicks
Yes, I know the Knicks are red hot, but I think this line is a bit inflated. I will gladly back the team with the better star, the better coach, and the better bench at a bargain. The Knicks will keep it close, but Jayson Tatum should close them out to end the New York's winning streak. Side note, if the Knicks pull out this win, they are for real.
As per usual, do what you must with this valuable information.
