+ Da Bears are struggling to say the least
Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the world of football today:
🏈 TNF Preview
🎩 Top Ten Thursday
🚀 ...and much more!
Let's get into it.
👑 TNF Preview
Tonight the 1-1 New York Giants square up against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers for the third edition of Thursday Night Football. It truly is a miracle that the Giants have a win heading into Week 3, and as for the 49ers, it’s hard to say whether or not they will lose any games at all this season.
Giants
The team’s best player, Saquon Barkley, will be unavailable after suffering an ankle injury. That’s going to make this tough matchup much tougher.
Riding off the high that was the 20-point comeback in Arizona last Sunday, this game will rest on two things: Daniel Jones’ ability to make something out of nothing, and the defense’s ability to contain Christian McCaffrey. Jones, now without his main guy by his side on offense, will need to use his arm to throw a lackluster cast of wide receivers open against a stifling 49ers secondary and use his legs to keep the 49ers on their toes just enough to make them unsure of themselves.
The defense is going to need to step up in a big way in order to make this game close. So far this season the Giants’ front seven have recorded zero sacks, allowed the sixth-most rushing yards in the league, and have yet to record a takeaway. These numbers will have to change, and change fast, if they want any chance at winning this ballgame.
49ers
San Francisco is hailed as one of the top-three teams in the NFL right now, and it’s hard to say otherwise. Through the first two weeks of the season, Christian McCaffrey leads the league in rushing by nearly 100 yards, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk have each recorded over 100 yards receiving, and Brock Purdy has been the ever-so-steady QB with a 66.7 completion percentage and two touchdowns.
The defense, led by linebacking duo Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw, is one of the best in the league. Deommodore Lenoir and Charvarius Ward (super fun first name combo) are shaping up to be solid cornerbacks, and safety Talanoa Hufanga has stepped up his game as the team’s lead man covering deep.
Put all of these things together, and with the brilliant mind that is Kyle Shanahan at the helm, and the 49ers have one heckuva squad. There is no real threat that this 49ers team needs to worry about other than Jones’ scramble ability. If they take care of that, they will win this game quite easily.
Prediction
On paper, this is matchup between two of 2022’s NFL playoff teams, each with wins and firmly in contention for their division. Unfortunately for New York, this game is played on the football field.
Mr. Covers has taken San Fran at -10.5, but I think anyone could take them at -20.5 and still be fine. Bang bang Niner gang all the way to the win in denim’s favorite stadium.

🗞️ In Other News…
After being put on the trade block earlier this week, (now former) Rams running back Cam Akers is headed to the Minnesota Vikings. The teams agreed to a swap of 2026 draft picks in the deal, and Akers will help bolster a struggling Vikings rushing attack.
What in the world is happening to the Chicago Bears?! It seems like just a couple of weeks ago, everyone from the front office to the fans were excited for a turnaround season. Now, quarterback Justin Fields is calling out his coaching for the lack of success on offense so far, defensive coordinator Alan Williams resigned from the team for “personal reasons” and the team is a 0-2 and headed downhill. It’s hard to collapse like this just two weeks into the season, but luckily for Bears fans, they can rest in the fact that they will have an opportunity at another high pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

💰 Mr. Covers’ Corner
🟡 Niners -10.5 vs Giants
🟡 Colorado vs. Oregon Over 71.5 total points
🟡 Titans vs. Browns Under 39.5 total points
🟡 Bills -6.5 vs. Commanders
Thursday’s Picks
🏈 NFL: Chiefs -12/12.5 vs. Bears
To those who may be thinking "this is too many points," I ask you, how the hell do you think this game is going to go? Patrick Mahomes versus one of the worst defenses in the league, if not THE worst, and their defensive coordinator just resigned for... bad reasons. This will get ugly and ugly fast.
🏈 CFB: Notre Dame +3 vs. Ohio State
Last year's matchup between these teams was lackluster, to say the least. Although I don't see this game being a shootout by any means, I really like the Irish here. Both teams are very different than a season ago and for both teams that means better defense.
Ohio State QB Kyle McCord has not played well at all this year and Notre Dame should be able to make his night an ugly one. Honestly, I see the Irish winning this game, but I will play it safe with the points.
🎒CFB season record: 6-9-0
⭐️ NFL season record: 12-4-1
