We are officially 1/3rd of the way through the MLB regular season, and it’s been a surprising group of teams that have established themselves at the top of the league. In order, here are the top 5 teams right now according to MLB.com

1. Tampa Bay Rays (39-17)

2. Texas Rangers (34-19)

3. Baltimore Orioles (34-20)

4. Atlanta Braves (32-22)

5. LA Dodgers (33-22)

I think it’s a pretty fair list, even with my DFW bias. There are at least three teams on this list that have continued to shock the baseball world, but these guys just keep winning games.

You may be wondering, where are all the big names like the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, and Padres? While they might not have had the start to the season as those top five have, they are still firmly in the thick of things. You have to remember, we still have 100+ games to go, and in that amount of time, anything can happen.

In the meantime, while we wait for everything to shake out in anticipation of the postseason, let’s just all be glad that we aren’t Oakland A’s fans.

About last night...

The spin zone is the Rangers are atop the newest power rankings, but oh man did the Braves look bad. Bottom of the ninth, and they walked 3 out of 4 batters to load the bases with one out. A true recipe for disaster. I’ll continue to bet against the A’s, but this one hurts.

⚾️ MLB: Rays -140 vs. Cubs + Rays -1.5

The Rays are 7-1 when Zach Efflin is on the mound. Rays are the better team and have dropped two straight to the Cubs so far. Just your simple system play here.

⚾️ MLB: Reds vs. Red Sox O 10 runs

These two teams are a combined 61-43-2 on the over this year. Each starting pitcher has above a 5.00 ERA. I can’t think of a reason not to take this over.

⚾️ MLB: Rangers ML -150 vs. Tigers

I got convinced by the so called experts and sharp betters to not go with the Rangers yesterday, and I was rewarded with a 10-6 Rangers win. This is an important time to bring this up: just trust yourself (obviously within reason, don’t go putting an A’s future in). Dane Dunning is on the mound for the Rangers; he is 4-0 with a a 1.67 ERA.
