Today we celebrate some of the best athletes in all of sports + Mr. Covers has some more thoughts
Good morning everyone! Here's what news we ✨snagged✨ for you around the sports world today:
🏆 Sports’ Best
🧢 Barkley Calls Cap
🚀 ...and much more! Let's get into it.
👑 Main Character
Before we get into all the ESPYS talk, what are these sunglasses…? I know, I know, they’re probably a bazillion dollars and made by some famous fashion designer, but this guy looks like a nerdy evil villain preparing to plot his plan of destruction.
Now that that’s off my chest…
Last night, the sports world gathered to honor all the incredible athletes and their achievements from the past year or so. Pat McAfee filled in as the host at the 11th hour, and had some jokes that I would bet more than a few execs from ABC did not appreciate.
While there were many takeaways from last night’s award show, the man in the funky glasses made it clear to anyone wondering: he’s running it back.
LeBron James:
“The day I can’t give the game everything on the floor is the day I’ll be done. Lucky for you guys, that day is not today.” 👑👑👑

Becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer is quite the achievement, and love him or hate him, he certainly deserved some applause for it. We’re glad he’s coming back.
The night featured a multitude of award winners, and here’s a few of those names that we think deserve some extra shine.
Best Comeback Athlete: Jamal Murray, Denver Nuggets
Best Breakthrough Athlete: Angel Reese, LSU Tigers
Best Play: Justin Jefferson with “The Catch of the Century” (Snagged Sports does not agree with the play’s title whatsoever)
Jimmy V Award for Perseverance: Liam Hendriks, Chicago White Sox
Best Team: Kansas City Chiefs
Best Male Athlete: Patrick Mahomes

🥺 Wholesome Content
Damar Hamlin presenting the Pat Tillman Award for Service to the Bills' training staff at the @ESPYS is pretty awesome.

This video says it all. Damar Hamlin has able to present the Pat Tillman Award for Service to the men and women who helped save his life out on the football field after needing CPR and an AED.
We know we’re double dipping on the ESPYS here, but are you going to sit back and tell me this isn’t the most wholesome thing you saw yesterday? Didn’t think so!
🐣 Tweet of the Day
Saquon Barkley is the newest face of NFL players holding out for a contract, but apparently, people don’t know the whole truth.
Running backs have seen the worst side of contract deals of any position in football the past couple of years, and Barkley is prepared to sit back and wait for the right offer for the good of himself, and his position group.
💰 Mr. Cover’s Football Corner
Now that you know where Snagged Sports stands in regards to divisional standings and which teams we’re backing, it’s time to break it down even further.
It’s simple: over or under.
The next couple of days, Mr. Covers has picked a few of his favorite teams and accurately predicted each of their win totals on the year. Let’s dive into the first team of this new segment with a team that has some exciting rookies, but no one expects to make any real noise this upcoming season.
Houston Texans
Over/Under 6.5 wins
I do not understand this number in the slightest.
The Texans have a rookie head coach and quarterback. This team is going to need some time to gel, and in my opinion, it’s going to take longer than 17 weeks to string together more than six wins.
They have the upside of playing the NFC South but also have the unfortunate luck of having to play each team from the AFC North. I’m projecting them to finish the season at 5-11 with one potential toss up game against the Carolina Panthers. Even with a new shiny QB in CJ Stroud, along with a few new pieces, there’s no need to overthink this one.
💵 Pick: Under 6.5 wins
